Live Transcribe & Sound Notifications is an Android app designed to make everyday conversations and surrounding sounds more accessible for people who are deaf and hard of hearing. The app offers real-time transcription in over 80 languages and dialects, with the ability to add custom words and set your device to vibrate when someone says your name. You can also type responses in your conversation and see the volume of the speaker's voice compared to the loudness in your environment. The app also supports external microphones for better audio reception.

In addition to transcription, the app also offers Sound Notifications, which alerts you to potential risky situations and personal situations based on sounds happening at home, such as smoke alarms or baby sounds. You can add custom sounds to get notified when your appliances beep, and notifications can be received with a flashing light or vibration to your mobile device or wearable. The Timeline view lets you go back in history to see what was happening around you.

To access Live Transcribe & Sound Notifications, simply open your device's Settings app and tap Accessibility, then tap Live Transcribe or Sound Notifications. The app requires Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and up and was made in collaboration with Gallaudet University, the premier Deaf and hard of hearing university in the US.

The app requires microphone access to transcribe the speech around you and listen for sounds happening around you, but the audio is not stored after processing is finished. As an accessibility service, the app can observe your actions.
